Hopefully they'll learn from the mistakes of the past.
Everyone knows what happened in the Varauta War of 2045-2046, but what happened after that is far diffrent then what has been interperted in the games of today. The Varauta remained a deadly enemy and for a year they harrased convoy's and colony missions, rebiulding their forces with the loot and prisoners they took. At this point the UNS begin to take action, Intelligence assets were reassigned as well as a realignment of defensive assets that were previously directed towards rebel and pirate forces, this brings us to Early 2048. High command reacted slowly, After all the Macross 7 defeted the Varauta single handly. Captain Genius of M-7 has vocally derided this policy but he was far far from earth. The Varuta spread like a virus, and like any virus it mutated. They were no longer controlled by the Protodevlin, but developed a concoussness, government and military that was totaly diffrent of the Varauta from the war of 2045. UNS Intel began bring back reports of this new mentality, the actions of the Varauta were more tacticle with better feild level command, more adaptable. In a word Dangerous. Captain Genius was starting to be taken sriously by several, less optimistic, military leaders. But is it too late? Max thinks so. Macross 7 has already deviated form planned course and attached itself to the Macross 4 and Megaroad 29 Colony Missions for Mutaul Defence. Eventually the Varauta implemented a war of conquest that had rivaled all other's before it in recorded history. They launched a brilaint campaing against the UNS. First they captured several remote colony's, then launched an assault on several of the richer inner colonies. Most of these were faints, for their real goal was New Eden. The Varauta arrival in Eden Space shocks everyone. The planetary Defensive gird comes online and the Varauta begin to suffer massive losses. UNS loses are even greater since they were badly outnumbered at first. Then sector forces are drawn from around the UNS to join the Battle at Eden, but before they could arive the Varauta had already controlled most of Eden's surface with feirce battles still being waged in orbit. Within 4 hours the Varauta have been repeled at a massive 70% loss to the attack fleet, with almost an equal ammount of dammage inflicted upon UN forces. Varauta Envoys sue for a cease fire while the UNG didn't want to give it, the Spacy is spread too thin to respond. Max Genius suggest detaching miliatary arms from several Colony missions to re-enforce but his suggestion is turned down. The remaing colony fleets are ordered to Outlying Colony worlds.. toward the Galactic Rim where possible. The Varauta had been defeated on Eden, but their ultimate goals had been achived. They were able to capture or destroy almost all UNS research that was being held there, throwing most of these research programs back years and propelling Varauta research ahead by a large degree. Debate continues on who actually won this battle, since both sides had achived almost all their objectives. UNG and Varauta Empire formed a unstable non-agression pact, but this only put off a distarious war that everyone knew would be comming. The Varauta continued to evolve themselves in their cloning programs, and biult deadly new weapons. Soon UNS operatives discovered that new Varauta mecha were far more advanced then their UNS equivlants. As well as uncovering a large scale, advanced Varauta Cloning program. The Emergency powers Act is invoked and the UNS began an emergency retrofit. Unused Cloning systems were activated on Earth and Else where. Several Factions began work on several Earth Defensive stratagies. Oddly the Human UNGs saving grace would come in the form of two men Who most hated each other. Eden's Lt. General Milard Johnson and General Gomez. both men were largely ignored by the tacticians but both had realized (along with Max Genius) that the Varuta would by pass Eden entirely and that their next target was Earth. Late in 2050 the attack commenced, annother Assualt on Eden. Ships were again pulled from across the Secotor to Defend the Planet. Attacks elswhere in the UNG shpere surprised everyone with they're size and force. Eden held, but it was a case of having won the battle and lost the war. 6 minutes 28 seconds after retreating form Eden, Varuta Forces arrived in earth Space Far better defended than Eden (at this point) Earth Forces began to put up a stiff restance, and forced the first wave of the Varauta attack fleet to retreet. Reserve UN Forces begin arriving in the first fourty minutes with a signifigant number of ships (20% of the Fleet) arriving in less than 80 minutes. Then the true depth of the UNS folly was revealed. It seems that during the Fold operation to Eden, when gravametric sensors were blinded by out going ships, the Varauta Folded a fleet 5 times the size of the Eden group right into earth space. This attack force began to ravage the returning ships and crush the fleet between themselves and the earth own Defenceive grid. It was during the last hours, desparately trying to save something, Gomez activated the plan he and Johnson had built. Thousands of ghost fighters, built on Eden, began to attack the Varauta. The Varauta advance faltered and nearly one million refugees were packed into the SDF-01, and several hundred thousand more in smaller military and civilan ships. The Macross then rose into space for the first time in 40 years. Macross, and most of the refugee laiden vessels, escaped Earth space badly dammaged but still intact. All communications with the fleet was lost mere minuates after the Macross escaped, no one made it out of Earth space after the Macross had to report what had happened......... Earth was totaly in Varauta control less than a week later, and in the next two years they would also capture the rest of the colonies at their leasiure. UNSpacy no longer exists as a coheasive organization. Leadership fell from one petty Flag Officer to the next as many of the highest ranking officers vanished on earth. Some bands still fought against the Varuta and some even amoungst themselves. It's a confusing and sad time, and all hope seems lost. |
